Sometimes you cannot help but vent your anger at yourself because there is not much you can do but keep to yourself especially when you’re living at this part of the world where people who speak the truth are not appreciated rather lambasted and labeled.
Truth be told, no TV station has been able to unearth talents like TV3 has done in this country. It is for this reason the channel remains one of the best and has been at this position for a very long time. The growing talents in the vein of this network also earned it the accolade; house of reality shows. Without a shred of doubt, they stand tall without any competition though they still have a lot of room for improvement.
Season 8 of one of the many reality shows under the ambit of the channel; Talented Kids started not long with the final coming off last Sunday at the National Theatre and the children brought the best out to the amazement of patrons and viewers.
Unfortunately, the arguably most anticipated finals since the inception of the reality show was soiled by the live coverage given to the show. I agree they work with machines that are not 100% efficient but the reason there should always be a contingency plan or what we all refer to as plan B. When this plan B is available, we fall on it immediately but this is Ghana where punishable acts are allowed to go unpunished which ends up attracting another act and the chain continues unabated.
The live coverage of the grand finale of Talented Kids Season 8 can be said to be the worse in recent times. I am sorry but I need to be really blunt about this because it looked like they really did not do any preparation towards the show. I suspect they took the show for granted and it is because throughout the season 8, it has been recorded in the preliminaries which isn’t the case in the previous editions.
Producers of the show really didn’t factor the fact that, the final is going live from an auditorium they cannot boast to know like they do their studio B. Truth is that with live shows, things may go wrong even when you’ve done all there is to do but if there is coordination between the various wings, even the errors will not be visible or rare.
For the first time, a final of a reality show has really seen the best on display because usually the contestants are overwhelmed by pressure and expectation just because it’s the last one. But this one saw Christian Morgan, DJ Switch, Naquel Melodians etc. outperforming their previous shows and they were indeed performances for a grand finale.
Only for this beauty to be marred by the live coverage from TV3 when we all know this wasn’t their first time picking feed from the National Theatre. The annoying thing is that it wasn’t even a TV production but just a TV coverage which is easier than the latter.
You promise viewers, coverage of a finale and when you lose the feed, you start showing us clips from the previous episodes of the season without any indication. Not a single sentence on the screen to let viewers know what is being shown sending the first time viewers into the wonderland filled with confusion.
The show was put on auto run of a sort so whenever the channel loses feed from the venue, it was at the disadvantage of the viewer which for me was not good for brand TV3. A feed comes back and the viewer is lost because too much is gone already and this only shows the level of respect the channel has for the viewer.
Viewers could not help but blame the host but really, the blame should go to the producers because viewers thought she announced the winner as if she just woke from bed with no excitement and created no suspense but truth is now viewer saw when the winner was announced till when the host asked the judges what informed their decision.
So I ask again, who does this to a show that has given the channel the biggest number of eyeballs at a goal. I dare say it has been a very long time TV3 experienced this traffic and didn’t really care but had to rush the show.
Congrats to all the contestants for a great exhibition of talents and I pray that TV3 honors their pledges for the prizes. The channel has a track record of not honoring promises of prizes right from Mentor to Talented Kids. We look forward to a better and improved edition of Talented Kids next season so Ghanaian children will feel free to play!
