The work of the radio or tv presenter is one that is being envied by many wanna be people because of the fame and prestige attached to it.
You can`t blame them because the presenter whether on radio or on tv is always happy beaming with smiles and laughter all over creating the impression that all is well with him or her and that they are part of the happiest people on this planet. Of course, every trained broadcaster will tell you that there is a spirit in sounding or looking excited on TV or on radio when it matters.
Therefore because you want to look or sound excited, we all try hiding behind the cameras and the microphone to look happier when in reality most presenters are dying inside because of one or two issues bothering them. Why do you think these presenters are not happy when in reality their work should make them the happiest people on earth so they can infect us with their happiness?
Since I started following the media space in Ghana, I have never heard a presenter sounding sorrowful on air before. In fact, they are all happy and that is what the profession demands and they switch to their sad moments immediately they say bye bye to their followers on air. Until recently, I never knew radio and television presenters are the most people who are not happy in the world, at least I can limit it to the Ghanaian media. Shocking huh!!! But you will never know this if you listen to them on radio alone or watch them on tv alone. I pray that you take some time and get close to some of them and through your conversations, you will know that they are only faking happiness on air.
Positive judgement is always being placed on the presenters who ply their radio trade on the supposed popular or rich platforms thinking their on air guys are being paid well so they are happy and are doing very well. To our disappointment, they are the worst people in this discussion. Or can it also be that these radio presenters are not being truthful about treatment to them? Are they thinking in their selfish mode with the hope that all the goodies about the brands they stand for should be given to them because they are on air?
Let me share some stories with you, so you can defend this headline anytime it will come up for discussion. An A list presenter who was poached from Accra to a smaller town in Ghana by a known and a rich organization in Ghana was heard talking to another station manager of poaching him to his new station because to him, he is not satisfied with treatment from his perceived rich bosses in that particular town. This is one guy who is winning awards in the town and has one of the biggest drive time shows in his region.
So you will ask yourself that if he is not happy, why is he not telling his bosses of air so they settle whatever issue instead of faking to be doing all the good shows on air. We are in a deep mess if the people making us happy are not happy themselves. This is extremely serious!!! This can lead to a traumatic life that can even push some of them to commit suicide and things will get out of hands one day if care is not taken.
Again, a presenter was poached to a different region with all the pomp and pageantry about his transfer with the whole family but unfortunately within some few months, he is in tears and has regretted his actions big time. Despite the fact that he is not happy alongside some family related issues, he still goes back on air and presents his shows as if he has billions in his accounts and needs nothing in this life.
As a colleague in this show business, these current issues have really saddened my heart and I wish we could all come together to do something to salvage the situation but then what can be done my people? Bring ideas guys. Please let`s share some solutions because now is the time or never. A word to the wise is in Flex newspaper!!!

Sep 11, 2017 0There is too much chaos in our entertainment industry today and I am sometimes forced to ask myself whether or not we are serious to grow as an industry. From the days of ‘I told you so’ through to Osofo Dadzie’s Akan drama to our current movie days, I can’t boast of any...
