The organizers of the National Gospel Music Awards; Royal Akofena Entertainment have released the nomination of the maiden edition of the National gospel music awards.
The scheme which seeks to recognize excellence in gospel music in Ghana and has won the hearts of gospel music fans comes with 30 categories. Among the categories are: Female Worship Song of the Year, Best Praise Song of the Year, Best Gospel Song, Traditional gospel Song and many others.
According to the organizers, submitted works should be between January 1, 2014- 23rd August 2017. Putting the criteria into consideration, I can boldly say organizers or research team did a lazy job nominating Joyce Blessing, Gifty Osei, Sonnie Badu,Willie and Mike and Akesse Brempong because they don’t qualify for the maiden edition.
Celebrated gospel musician Joyce Blessing released her 3rd studio album ‘Heavy Price’ in 2013 and won the gospel album of the year at the 2014 Vodafone Ghana Music awards and again won five awards at the gospel music industry organized by Adom FM.
Multiple award winning gospel Diva, Gifty Osei released her ‘fefeefe’ song nominated in the National Gospel Awards ‘best gospel album, best gospel song and other categories in 2013 which automatically disqualifies her from being part of the scheme.
Akesse Brempong and Willie and Mike also released their nominated songs ‘Crazy love’ and ‘favour’ respectively in 2013. Sonnie Badu who released his ‘Wonder God’ song in 2012 should be disqualified as well to pave way for others.
Though the National Gospel Music award is a great initiative, it must be done well and not to favor some artistes. Besides the fact that they nominated artistes who do not qualify, there are a lot of mistakes in the scheme which must be corrected.
