over the weekend,Fatau Keita and the Vhim crew paid DiagneOumar a visit at his residence; one of the biggest music promoters in West Africa.
Sadly he is very ill and has been receiving treatment from the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital for some time now. Even though he is on medication, his health keeps deteriorating and he is ready to go back to his hometown Senegal to continue wit
h his treatment.
For those of us who have been around for some time now in the industry know how much Oumar has contributed to our Music reaching the Francophone countries and the West African Region as a whole.
He has promoted various Artistes including: Freddie Meiway, Bisa K. Dei, Shatta Wale, Guru, Amandzeba Brew, Fatau Keita, Rex Omar, Barima Sidney, Sarkodie, KniiLante just to mention a few.
As at 22nd October 2017 most of the artistes he has worked for has contributed financially to his health care but unfortunately most of the Ghanaian artistes he worked for are yet to even pay him a visit to know his condition even though he is currently living in Ghana.
Apart from MUSIGA, Rex Omar and Amandzeba Nat Brew always check up on him and Nat’s wife sometimes cooks and sends it over. Most of the artistes are yet to come to his assistance. He was also of the view that most of the artistes may not be aware of his current plight and therefore wouldn’t blame them so much.
It is very worrying to have someone who has sacrificed so much for the industry, and probably missed most of his appointments with his doctors just because he had to always travel to make sure our artistes are known across Africa so they can make good money, in such a situation and most of us seem not to care about it.
As said earlier, his ticket to Senegal has been purchased by Remy, a business friend from Togo and Meiway sent him £1,000 for his up keep with the Senegalese Embassy in Ghana also taking care of some of his medical bills.
He expressed extreme appreciation to Amandzeba, KniiLantey, Peter, Della Hayes Manager, Rex Omar, Barima Sydney and a few others who are doing so much for him and said he is yet to see the same effort from most of his Ghanaian Musician friends and Associations.
A humble appeal is being extended to all the musicians and associations he has worked with to please contribute and also remember him in prayers. Sometimes one is being tempted to ask if it’s even worth sacrificing for the Music Industry but as said let’s do the best that we can to make him feel that yes it was worth the while making all those sacrifices.
Artistes, Managers, philanthropists and the media can get through to him and also help him via his contact +233244279701
