It is a dream come true to know our Highlife genre despite its difficult times that almost saw the total collapse of it bounce back with more energy than ever before.
As said in legendary Nana Kwame Ampadu’s adage ‘Keep admiring for he who admires never gets old’, one of Ghana’s youngest and brilliant song writer and singer Kumi Guitar has indeed admired these legends for some time and his admiration has given birth to a dream which is to redeem the image of the said genre.
On Friday the 21-07-2017 at the Zylofon office located at East legon, Kumi Guitar brought hope, unity and smiles to the faces of Ghanaians who nearly gave up the fight in an attempt to redeem the image of high-life music when he launched his video ‘DREAM’.
The launch which brought all the highlife legends under one big umbrella did not only surprise patrons but brought tears in the eyes of many including the five star high-life artiste Kumi Guitar himself due to the message the song carries. Indeed, it wasn’t too much of a surprise to hear celebrated legends like Nana Kwame Ampadu and legendary Charles Amoah pledging their support to this young yet amazing singer and writer because, DREAM has suddenly revived their spirit to believe that, high-life is indeed not dead but has a future in the hands of these young ones.
Speaking at the launch, the singer and composer of DREAM, Kumi Guitar explained to the media saying, the song was from the depths of his heart.
“The song was written from the grasps of my heart with the soul intention of reviving high-life music and entertaining fans as well. The song I personify as our authentic high-life genre which is widely known to the world as being original Ghanaian, the song is aimed at getting back our lost glory as far as the genre is concerned. I am a proud son of Ghana and by virtue of my brand as a high-life musician and an authentic custodian of the genre which our fore-fathers created by the divine wisdom bestowed upon them, it is with much humility and pleasure to acknowledge the enormous inputs these giants who made appearances in my video namely, Nana Kwame Ampadu, Pat Thomas, Charles Amoah and Zapp Marlet,” he said.
Being the third official song under Zylofon media, the singer called on the media and the entire Ghanaian public to support push this song as it is a positive way of reviving our very own authentic high-life music.
In an effort to rekindle high-life music, Kumi Guitar will embark on a regional tour dubbed ‘THE DREAM REGIONAL TOUR’. This tour is to reach and to inform people in all the regional capitals who think high-life is dead that, the genre is still alive. It will again be followed by a concert dubbed ‘KUMI GUITAR AND THE LEGENDS CONCERT’ which will see Kumi guitar perform live on stage with some of these great legends for some selected days.
DREAM was directed and edited by Abass and was produced by Linkin Beats and has got all. It is currently available on YOUTUBE and can be downloaded from all the download portals.
