since last week Wednesday, Flex newspaper has kept an exclusive information about one of Ghana`s celebrated satirist and comedian Kwaku Sintim Misa aka KSM waiting for confirmation but the icon is still tight lipped.
Reporters at Flex newspaper have chanced on a document having an agreement between KSM and an event organization firm discussing his last show after which he will retire without mounting the stage again. The show according to the document is likely to happen in September this year and as usual of his past shows, it will have him doing his one man show with all the support of great industry people throughout a month.
Though the people working on the document confirmed that KSM has agreed to do the event with them including all the terms and conditions, the newspaper`s attempt to get KSM himself to deny or confirm has proved futile since he promised to get back to us with his position on the event and with his retirement saga. May be he will get back to us so we can only wait for his right time.
Should KSM Retire?
When it comes to celebrities or performers and retirement, that discussion is always dicey because unlike the formal sector, the performer decides when he or she is putting down the tools. In the case of KSM, it`s obvious he is aging gracefully after turning 60 which seems to be the official retirement age even in Ghana. Check his date of birth (December 5, 1956)
If his date of birth is anything to go by, then his retirement should not be a worrying statement to the industry because this is a man who has achieved countless laurels in the creative arts industry as an actor, a director, a script writer, a comedian and a satirist, a movie producer, radio and television show host and even more. He is a motivational speaker and a true statesman who believes in the growth and development of his country.
KSM`s retirement would be appreciated by both the young and old, and it will bring higher inspiration to the young showbiz people because he is not retiring as a desperate talent or a pauper unlike some showbiz people. The only thing the industry and revelers will miss will be his annual shows at the National theatre which assembles all the great men in Ghana under one roof.
Active Or Passive Retirement?
Though we might not know much about the retirement packages and what is in it for KSM should this retirement information becomes a reality, but for a personality like KSM to retire, we can perceive an obvious active or a passive retirement.
An active retirement we suspect will include leaving everything he is doing including his acclaimed television show which developed from Thank God It`s Friday (TGIF) to the KSM show which he has hosted alone since it`s inception. On the other hand, KSM can go through the passive retirement where he will not only be seen performing on the stage which obviously needs more energy and stamina to do, but he can continue hosting his long standing television shows which has viewers world wide. Should KSM get back to us on this speculations of his last show and retirement, these and many more questions will be put to him for answers and we believe this will put to rest the unending discussion about his retirement.
Many international showbiz and sports icons bowed out of their trade with countless troubles and scandals, apologies to Bill Cosby and Mike Tyson but the man who is currently the CEO of Sapphire Entertainment is bowing out a hero and a statesman with a respected and a marketable brand. His last show as has been speculated, if it`s anything to go by should be a state affair and should have all on board. Like the saying, a country that does not honour its heroes is not worth dying for, a neglect of KSM`s last and retirement show would mean all young people in the showbiz industry in Ghana would have to advise themselves for their future security sake.
Denial Or Confirmation?
Yes, KSM assured us that he will confirm or deny the speculation but he did not give us any time line as to when he is going to do that. We are only believing that his position finally will be one that will make the industry a beneficiary of his hard work and achievements whilst celebrating him for his contribution to where we are now. Though we agree we have a long way to go, his name will be written in history books one day when we make reference to that holy book in Ghana. Till then, keep watching this space for more.
