Entertainment blogger and artiste manager George Britton, who is currently the manager of a Ghanaian music group Keche and the CEO of George Britton Media has expressed his dissatisfaction and the very things affecting the music industry in Ghana.
Flex newspaperin an exclusive interview with George Britton has said that, there are many problems facing the music industry mostly about artiste management. According to him, managing artistes in Ghana is very difficult because it takes a whole process of grooming them.
‘ ‘And after all this, if the artiste finds his or her feet in the music industry he or she begins to see the manager as a bad person, which does not motivate others who are willing to come into the industry with their money to improve the music industry” he stated. George Britton further revealed that, one big thing that brings about misunderstanding between an artiste and their management in the Ghanaian music industry is mainly about contractual agreement and the relationship between them.
”Here in Ghana, some record label and managers work with an artiste on friendly terms without thinking about the business side of the job which has to do with contractual agreement with the artist and involving the right people in the signing of the contract” George added. George Britton also stated that the Ghanaian music industry is not clean enough to attract lawyers to be part of the industry which is a negative sign to the industry.
‘ Because I understand what am doing as an artiste manager between me and Keche, we are working on a contract basis with my lawyer and their lawyer to make sure we are on the right path and also nobody will feel disappointed when it all comes to an end between us.’
He again added that, every up and coming artiste is willing to blow in the music industry, so he or she will do anything possible to achieve his or her target. They fail to consider the details in the contract and later fume they have been treated unfairly by the managers. He believes this makes some investors so hesitant to invest in the industry after hearing all that.
George Britton also suggested, there must be laws in the music industry that will bring understanding between artistes and management, because managing an artiste needs time and energy. So after all this, managers feel hurt when artistes don’t appreciate them.He made it clear that, it doesn’t encourage them to help the millions of talents out there and it doesn’t bring about the progress they are all anticipating in the music industry.
