I have been following broadcasters in Ghana especially those within my catchment area. One observation that seems to be repeating itself is a presenter having natural passion to do other shows than the ones we know them for. The late Christopher Opoku showed that hidden prowess at Citi FM when he took over the reign at Citi FM’s newsroom and presented the major news bulletin; Eye Witness News for several days.
Another person that keeps surprising Ghanaians is the dynamite FiifiBanson formally of Peace FM’s Drive time show. Yes, he keeps showing us his passion in sports presentation intermittently but it’s obvious that’s where the man really belongs. I know he knows the ethics of radio and TV presentation hence the ability to run the shows like he does.
Fiifi does heated socio political morning show at Kasapa FM every weekday and you wonder whether he is the same FiifiBanson you knew at Peace FM handling the late afternoon show filled with humor and music. Aside the feat Fiifi is chalking at Kasapa FM, the Football Legends Night Show on GHOne TV stands tall.
Some of us have known the man’s love for sports especially football for a very long time when he was chasing KwabenaYeboah with stories for publication. But we still refuse to acknowledge that aspect until now even after hosting some sporting shows at GTV. At some point he even featured as a pundit for some of the sports shows and some football tournaments.
When I saw the promo for the Legends Show on GHOne TV, I knew it will be good especially when I found out the team aboard that show and I mean the producers of the show. Jeffery Asare and Henry Asante will not settle for mediocre. I know that because I know what those two gentlemen though there are others on the team.
My only fear at the time was how they were going to get the ‘legends’ on the show knowing that these folks have very tight schedule. Some travel outside the country almost every weekend and these travellers are those who will also be comfortable with the mode of communication on the show. This doubt kept me glued to the show to see how things will pan out and I must say, it has been amazing for the greater part.
I will on any occasion debate that some few names that have appeared on the show will not make a legend list for me. Playing the Black Stars at a point does not necessarily make you a legend but the impact you had or role you played. That impact should be more than three times that of the average player.
Fortunately, the invalidity of some of the pundits has not marred the beauty of the show thanks to the host FiifiBanson. The man knows the legends (players) who form the pundits for the show like he knows the back of his palm and that makes the players feel at home and comfortable to say all there is to say.
One good thing I have observed is the mutual respect between the host and the legends on the show. The respect is huge such that there is barely a moment that the show gets chaos which can only be born out of respect between the two faction; host and pundits.
Topics discussed on the show are very rich and to cap it up with the legends sharing their opinions and practical expertise on the various issues brought on every week. I have always opined that Ghanaians really do not milk the expertise from our legends before they die. We sheepishly look on while they go to the grave with all the rich practically acquired proficiency.
If you are yet to catch a glimpse of the show, just tune in this and every Friday between 9pm and 10:30pm and you will be glad you did.
